At a June 1 1908 regular meeting of the Socorro County board of equalization present were President David Farr Commissioner Alfredo Armijo Clerk E H Sweet and Interpreter BE Stapleton A letter from Governor George Curry urged higher valuations and lower tax rates noting territory wide assessments had been under value about twenty percent of actual value He proposed reducing mills from 14 toward 13 or 12 and aiming for 7 or 8 mills on the dollar with thorough assessments and cooperation between territorial and county officials to place New Mexico in a favorable light.
