New County Board Holds First Regular Session
The Socorro County board met January 16 at the courthouse with Commissioners John Greenwald and Carpio Padilla present. Padilla elected to temporary chairman, with bonds for new officers approved and a county printing contract awarded to Socorro County Publishing Company. A list of road supervisors and election officials was established for many precincts, and the probate clerk authorized to order stationery. The board adjourned to await a report from the retiring treasurer and collector. A note on irrigation plans for 40,000 acres near the San Andreas mountains followed, detailing dam specs, cost, and impact on Jornada lands. The San Marcial Bee commented on indemnity.
