Penitentiary Finances Questioned by Former Official

Albuquerque dispatch reviews the penitentiary budget with Hon. H O Bursum noting that Governor Hagerman's claim about last year’s bills being paid from current maintenance funds is broadly correct but incomplete. The 1905 06 fiscal year began December 1 1905 and the present management took charge April 12 1906, with $17 032 60 still due and $8 738 87 in supplies turned over. Bursum says the total available for maintenance this year is about $25 771 47, slightly above two thirds of the appropriation, and agrees with Hagerman that two convict camps for the scenic route are economically worse than a single camp.
