Death of Challis child Carl Fox 12 in 1898

The Challis community chronicles the death of Little Carl, age 12 years 8 months, after a two week illness from whooping cough evolving into consumption. Funeral services were held September 7, with schoolmates and the Crescent Society paying respects. A letter from Bert Fox, serving with Idaho troops in the Philippines, describes Manila Bay, camp life, and wartime conditions. The family expresses thanks for support and floral tributes.

Populist Co Convention Called for Custer County Idaho

The Populist County Central Committee of Custer County Idaho calls a convention in Challis on September 24 1899 at 2 o clock to nominate county officers and state legislators. Primaries are set for September 17 with delegate primaries in specified precincts. The document outlines the positions to be elected and the delegate apportionment.

Next Saturday, the 17th, primaries for three political parties will be held throughout Euster county. One week later, the 21st, the Democratic, Silver Republican and Populist conventions meet in Challis. It is uncertain what the outcome will be, but each party should field its best county officers.
