Funeral for Challis resident John Collins held kindly

A large turnout attended the burial in Challis after a life spent in modest means. The Episcopal service was led by L. H. Johnston with choir hymns and organ accompaniment. Pallbearers placed the casket at the church door and flowered tomb, while mourners offered prayers for the deceased. God bless the soul of John Collins was spoken by many in sorrow.

Meets His Doom in Challis Shootout Between Miners

In Challis last Monday evening a shooting scrape between two Chinese men ended with Ah Sam killing another Chinaman. Ah Sam, a cook for the Black mine, shot the man who had been cooking at the Montana mine. The killing occurred in Custer Monday afternoon. Ah Sam was brought from Custer Thursday evening by Jack Appleton and jailed to await District Attorney action.
