In Mackay Idaho on August 27 1908 the Republican county convention elected J C Fox W G Sweet and L E Dillingham as delegates to Boise they are instructed to back Hon James H Brady for governor and to support Burton L French for Congress Weldon Heyburn for the U S Senate and George Coryell for State Mine Inspector The platform denounces religious domination in politics and calls for forwarding the party slate and Challis to nominate the county ticket
Foreman Robert Francis extols Lost Packer in Utah transit to Salt Lake City praising mountain climate pure water and abundant wildlife. He notes 600 plus horses moving coke to the smelter and a daily 100 tons ore flow. Also reports state forest receipts under a new law allocated to counties for roads and schools.
By direction of the Custer County Democratic Central Committee voters are informed the primary will be held in all precincts on Monday September 28 1908 to select delegates to the Democratic County Convention to be held at a later date.
A Democratic County Central Committee notice for Mackay Idaho dated Friday October 2, 1908 announces a primary election at 2 PM to 6 or 7 PM depending on precinct, naming offices to be nominated including State Senator Representative Sheriff Assessor Probate Judge Treasurer County Attorney Superintendent of Public Instruction three County Commissioners Coroner Surveyor Justices of the Peace and Constables. Committeeman to post notices in three public places and arrange the vote. M M Sweet chairman W J Lamme secretary.
George Telfer hanged himself in his Bayhorse cabin on a Sunday afternoon. Coroner Ebberts held an inquest. Despondency cited as likely cause. Telfer had lived in Bayhorse 24 years. aged and well known. Also notes death of Mrs Aurilla Butters in Burnham Maine aged 77. Report of John tal land dying in Boise.
