County Board discusses road ditch and ore road swap

Challis Idaho October 10 1898 Board of County Commissioners met at 10 am with H H Knapp W J Treloar Geo McGowan and Geo E Keyes Clerk. Antonio Tognana owner of a ditch asked to swap in a new road built between his ranch and the Smalls ranch for the old county road. Board proposed and he agreed to hold the county harmless for ditch damage. Also heard petition from Lost River residents to preserve a bridge near Houston and considered road repairs in Stanley Basin.Filed notices for bids on county printing and indigent care bids for January 1899. Ordered road fund limited spending after Oct 15 1898. Appointed E C Headrick registrar for Challis precinct due to illness. Rejected wood sale but accepted 10 cords if paid by warrant in Jan 1899. Various current expenses approved and adjourned to Nov 16 1894 to canvass election returns.

Challis Dance Fever Ends At Midnight Supper

A Challis social night featured a late quadrille and a half mix with a faux supper of crackers sardines and corned beef. Patrons danced until 2 a m while merchants supplied light fare. local notices report visitors, political plans, and community events across Idaho towns.

Desks Arrive as School Prep Nears Opening
