Mr Hoelzle Prop is set to open a public lodging house on North arn Street near Jordan's place, offering lodging by day or month at reasonable rates. Meals triple meals priced at $1.00. Addressed to traveling salesmen with white help employed, the notice markets ball and banquet services and public accommodations.
Challis celebrates returning Custer county volunteer Henry Horton from the Philippines with a town welcome on Tuesday the 3rd. Flags, music, speeches by Wm. T. Reeves and P. M. Bruner, schoolchildren singing, a grand ball, and vivid tributes mark the homecoming amid decorations across Main Street and public buildings. Horton, once 180 pounds, returned thin at about 140 due to wounds, fever, and tropical exposure after famed Idahos charge at the Battle of Malinta.
Fragments describe range of soft woods to hardwoods, varnish and stain in operation. Details unclear due to text corruption but indicates handling and finishing processes within a wood treatment setting.
C V Hansen, proprietor of the Daily Four Horse Concord caches mail passengers and express. Stage leaves Challis for Boise and Blackfoot every morning at 6 o'clock. John W. Hoffman died at his home near Salmon River three miles from Challis on Tuesday night October 8 1899 after a year of ill health. A native of Iowa age about 60 he lived in Custer and Challis for 19 to 20 years working at the Custer mill. He was an old soldier and Mason, with burial services conducted by local Masons at the I O O F Hall. He leaves a wife and two sons, and his death draws the community's sympathy.
Card pieces express heartfelt thanks to friends who aided during illness and death of a husband and father. Names Endora Hoffman Edgar Hoppman Leguy Hoffman Challis Idaho. Reports on local incidents include mine explosion at Lucky Boy shaft with Karl Karlson injured lightly and four days needed to repair and retimber.
District Court entries include jury verdicts of not guilty for Sean versus Elmer Rer Ford and guilty of land larceny for State of Idaho against Elmer Halford, four-year penitentiary sentence. Civil actions continued, dismissed for want of prosecution, or under advisement. divorces granted. estates and receivership actions continued. several cases moved or dismissed for lack of prosecution or pending settlement. death and substitution of parties noted.
Awards for exhibits in the educational department at Boise State Fair were given with St. Margaret's Boise winning first premium and Challis Public School second. Judges included A. Mann and Mr. Ford. The Challis display impressed given the many larger schools in the state.
District Court adjourned and county commissioners met in Challis. A tax writ targets Lemhi and Custer warrants. diverse locals like Prof. Barnes Dog and Pony Show, Easton exchanges, and visits from G. Idaho volunteers mingle with mining news. Bell moments include Woods Live Stock plan, silk shell gift, and the Philippnes-bound Galland.
