Remnants of Fort St Louis Unearthed Near Port Lavaca Texas

A cross and other relics from Fort St Louis built by La Salle in 1685 have been found along the Navidad river near modern Port Lavaca. The site, long littered with stones and iron, recalls the ill fated expedition from which La Salle departed to seek the Mississippi. The relics, now owned by Harry Bickford of Port Lavaca, attest to dangers and hardships faced by the explorer and his band.
