Challis to Get Major Round Valley Irrigation Project

The town of Challis in Custer county advances a large irrigation scheme to reclaim 5000 acres, with a reservoir capable of irrigating nearly 15000 acres. Slick Bros. Construction is selected to build once site and water rights are agreed, funding secured by settlers through attorney Carl A. Davis. The project surrounds Challis valley, using Challis creek as the water source.

Pittsburg & Gilmore engineers plan Salmon Boise road

A long expedition of Pittsburg and Gilmore engineers left Salmon last Saturday to lay lines for a potential Salmon to Boise railway via Challis. Dr. H F Kimball of Salmon confirms the route up the Salmon River to Challis and onward to Leadore with depots contracted at 30 by 80 feet. The survey then shifts toward Dillon with a tunnel near Clark's canyon and an Oregon Short Line crossing at Beaverhead Rock.

Surveyors Rush Dillon Road Extension Plan

A telegraph received by the surveyors yesterday prompts rushing the Dillon survey. The company reportedly intends building the Armstead to Dillon line quickly, with plans to extend to Twin Bridges to connect with the Northern Pacific railroad.

Death of H D Jaquish Ends Bayhorse Pioneer Career

H D Jaquish longtime Bayhorse merchant and early Custer county settler died suddenly June 7 1910 in a Gainesville Georgia cotton seed oil mill He was 64 born 1846 He came to Custer county in 1879 sold his Bayhorse store 18 years ago and later ran cotton seed oil mills in Georgia He is survived by a widow and was buried at Crown Point Indiana He served four years in the Union Army including 14 months in Andersonville He was uncle to E J Michael county treasurer

Mail Contract Awarded for Challis to Custer Route

Mail contract six times weekly between Challis and Custer has been awarded to Mr. Hanson of Mackay and Central Idaho Stage Co. for four years from July 1. The price exceeds 5000 annually, likely 5500 to 5800, higher due to high feed and horse costs. Hanson plans to begin July 1 at 6 AM. locals expect improved service with experienced operator, despite the harsh winter route.
