On the Trail of Idaho Pioneers in Challis Era

A sketch profiles two Idaho West legends, Flenniken and Jack Fleming. Flenniken, born 1848 in Uniontown, traced mining and military trails from Utah to Nevada and Idaho, aiding troops, scouting, and settling in Boise and Bayhorse. Jack Fleming, born 1829 in Boston, recalls California, Montana mining, race track work, and later life in Challis with a quiet stone home.

Benner a Stanley Basin merchant vanished Friday afternoon near Casino creek after riding toward Salmon river. He was last seen on horseback and then tracked to the riverbank. no trace found by June 10. Wife offers 100 dollar reward for his body. Also notes a Fourth of July meeting in Challis at the Court House to plan celebrations.

Orange J Salisbury Dead in New York Hospital

Orange J Salisbury of Salt Lake a Bayhorse mine owner and Ramshorn group principal owner died of heart disease at St Luke's Hospital New York while en route to Germany June 1. He operated mines in Mayhorse and once owned the Blackfoot to Uhallis stage line. His Bayhorse mines have been idle for years. He left a widow and three children.
