The New Challis House is a first class hotel with unmatched meals and accommodations in the county. Stages travelers find it convenient as drivers board there. Meals are always promptly on time. Located one door west of the telephone office.
Mrs M Jose offers first class meals and lodging northwest of R N Hull Co store in Challis Idaho. Fine rooms beds and table with best market offerings. Daily weekly or monthly rates.
Road Overseer Jose reports the venue relic dwindling while the Dredge runs well, giving Stanley its only live presence. Valley Creek mine closes due to shareholder disputes. Ballinger & Co. may deepen Mountain Girl 100 feet if samples pass. I H Marshall plows land for Timothy and red top. Stanley sees few progress signs and urges laborers to seek other work.
The Salmon Herald denounces traveling salesman fakirs after noting locals paid to print their names while traders chase space in a fake boom publication. It exposes home merchants and printers who fund schemes, warn readers against schemes, and lament subscriptions unpaid that drain local funds.
The text defends H A Ferguson editor of the New Century Review while condemning paying a stranger for praise. It notes traveling correspondents in the county and asserts many patrons who bought personal laudations were despicable dead-beats, while the stranger collected money and harmed printers, individuals, and the country.

R L Bybee an optician from San Francisco is visiting the Jose Hotel for a few days and will test eyes free of charge using modern appliances. If corrective lenses are needed he will make glasses tailored to the defect, with no charge for evaluating the eye trouble.
Hotel arrival notes list guests including Masher and Brance with Grant McCoy and others in terse, fragmentary OCR. Names appear multiple times with garbled spellings, most likely a society or hotel register entry referencing West Young Joe Raltuaie and Lake Crmn among scattered place-like words.
