A new Mt Estes Mines company formed in Salt Lake with $400000 capital to develop the Montana mine and eight adjoining claims on Jordan creek near Custer. J A Czizek named president E G Rowe treasurer KE Gable VP and secretary, with J H Richards and R E Collier as directors. The Montana mine has produced about $500000 in gold and is to be expanded with tunnels and a 1600 foot development drill.
James Ivers, manager of the Lost Packer’s mine at Loon Creek, reports a 40 ton ore sale in Salt Lake with 4.20 oz gold 11.5 oz silver and 19 percent copper per ton. He expects another carload by week’s end and road improvements to reach the camp, funded by the Lost Packer company as county help was not provided.
The American party in Utah polled about 7,900 votes after only 80 days organization. Senator Thomas Kearns and ex Senator Frank Cannon led the effort, with Idaho seen as touched by anti polygamy sentiment. In Idaho, Dan Heitfeld’s gubernatorial race would have swung if Mormon voters had split or abstained, as pro polygamy planks influenced party support and church-state separation debates across the state.
