Senator Thomas Kearns and ex Senator Frank Cannon led the effort, with Idaho seen as touched by anti polygamy sentiment. In Idaho, Dan Heitfeld’s gubernatorial race would have swung if Mormon voters had split or abstained, as pro polygamy planks influenced party support and church-state separation debates across the state.
