Breyer Shot Near Crown Point Mine

A telephone message reports Jim Clark shot Ed Breyer this morning near the Crown Point mine in Idaho. Breyer, who fronts mining claims on the hill, was shot from behind while Breyer’s homestead buildings were being moved after Clark disputed Breyer’s land rights. Clark surrendered at Dixie. Breyer’s wounds were treated by Dr Hawley and he expects a week or ten days of recovery. Gun violence is rising, with past incidents including a shoulder wound to Clark years ago.

No Verdict in Adams Murder Case at Rathdrum

After a lengthy session the jury in the Steve Adams case was discharged at 545 pm with eight to four in favor of acquittal and no change in ballots. Five ballots were taken as Judge Wood noted the impossibility of a verdict. Darrow said Adams may seek bond in the morning. Sheriff Bailey arrived with a warrant if Adams is acquitted on the Boyle murder charge.

Noles Enrollment and Events at ICOF Hall

A large enrollment at the school is noted as the gymnasium opens. A basket social and dance follow a program at I C O F Hall Friday evening next December 6. Parents Day comes next Friday. An art gallery viewing of the Great Masters is also planned at the Hall.

Judge Lighthall Dies in Challis at 68

Passed beyond William H. Lighthall known as Judge Lighthall died Friday morning in Challis at 7 30. A native of Canada he settled in the West early and spent years prospecting in Utah and Yellow Jacket country. He suffered from cancer in the mouth and had been in poor health six months. Funeral from the Congregational Church Saturday afternoon officiated by Rev A J Hoar. He was a Mason and remembered for kindness despite a life marred by drink.

Challis Village passes stock running at large ordinance

Challis Village Council enacted Ordinance No. 13 prohibiting stock running at large within town limits. Owners of livestock must remove or be liable for capture, notice, and sale procedures with pound fund details and costs. If unclaimed, ownership transfers to the village after six months.
