The Lost Packer smelter at Loon Creek started on Wednesday August 22 at 2 pm and operated until 8 am next day. The 100 ton daily plant produced matte up to 45 percent copper with high gold, drawing attention from Custer residents and mining men. The batch will be recycled to save shipping costs.
