August 28 1900 Challis Idaho reports a lively tale of rodeo verse and social life alongside town news. An Ida man submitted a verse to the Mail and Breeze for the hundred dollar prize offered by the State Teachers Association of Arkansas for best rhyming with the state name. The verse pokes gentle fun at Arkansaw and its typified girl with playful dialect and rustic lines.
In Santa Cruz California A K Zeigler enters a not guilty plea to a wife murder charge and the trial is scheduled for September 24 with insanity as his defense. Also a land office notice from Halley Idaho announces final proof requirements for Ellen Seydell formerly Ellen Barr with witnesses from Challis Idaho and a registration date set for October 3 1900.
In the Probate Court of Custer County Idaho the estate of W B McKinney deceased is investigated. Public Administrator 4N Aull issues notice to creditors to present claims with vouchers within four months after first publication at Challis residence Thabo the administrator’s office. Dated Challis Idaho August 1 1960 first publication August 26 1960.
Departed for Salmon last morning. They will return Challis to and on poet Sept. 3rd, will Man In Black. Pea, genuine comedy play, and is one of their best productions. From Challis the troupe goes to Houston, and will on eve 5th, commence a series of four plays at that place.
The Republicans of Lemhi county on the 22nd nominated a full county ticket. Senator M. M. McPherson is named for the Senate. Representatives are Thos Payette and Saydam. County Attorney J. C. Sinclair. Probate Judge J. H. Padgnaher. Sheriff L. J. Bancroft.
Andrew Marser of Custer Idaho counters rumors that Captain Frank A Hunt, Democratic gubernatorial candidate, supported Seapets and opposed union organizing. He praises Hunt’s Manila service and urges voters to trust his sincerity, promising Hunt will win broad support for justice to all interests if elected.
A new belt of mineral near Jerry Poquet's place three miles below Bonanza shows continuous veins from 12 inches to 12 feet wide carrying gold values ranging from $18 to $75 per ton. The Mack mine sale at Caster is assured. Mrs Axel Olson returned from Shelley Idaho. Miss Martha Oaks of Clayton visiting Challis friends. We had several rains last week. Dr Winnery, Omaha dentist, was in town.
