Notice describes board and lodging at Mrs M Jose location northwest of R N Hull Co store in Challis Idaho. Offers first class meals and lodging with large rooms good beds and table with best market goods. Available by day week or month at reasonable rates.
The Challis Public School will commence next Monday at the usual hour with Miss Sarah M. Keener as principal, and Miss Ida M. Anderson in the Primary department. The board emphasizes harmony between parents and teachers to ensure a strong school, urging parental support and attendance. Mrs. Geo. Clark sustained a broken right leg from a bridge accident while fishing near Watt's on Salmon River. she was treated by Dr. Huston and will be laid up for weeks.
A letter attacks the Herald at Salmon for twisting Hailey Times content to fit its views. It defends the Times and accuses the Herald of dirty journalism and misattribution regarding a Mining article about Salmon and coal fields. The note also includes town items: Dan Murphy’s mining move from Stanley to Shoup and a Challis treasurer notice about county warrants due for redemption and interest.
One night last week Robert Bell, while inspecting Stanley Basin mines, found a sheep herder camp tent with a placard promising shelter for Camp Tender s Sheep Herders Miners Hobos and Horse Thieves. It warned guests to wash dishes or make peace with God before returning. Bell followed the rules and spent a pleasant night.
A Maine farmer sent a 50 pound rock to Helena postmaster asking an assayer to determine gold or other metals. Mr Fisk reported the stone contained seven hiturite varieties with no precious metals and said the rock is of little value except for fencing or walling wells.
John I. Minear, superintendent, reports Challis business on Yankee Fork property. Deep ore bodies appear in the shaft bottom as development continues. A large force is at work on mine and mill with a new 10 stamp mill due soon to be installed by month end, signaling readiness for active operation and promising precious metals.
Carl Loving of Hailey picked up a live rattlesnake believing his faith would prevent a bite. The snake struck his hand, causing severe swelling and blackening. He refuses medical treatment and is described as in grave danger of death.
