Custer county notes a busy week with mining and land drawings, marriages, and real estate sales. Wards report a bear lake deputy warden appointment, public concerns over residency, and a bank lease on a prime Challis corner. A mining advertisement urges direct owner sales to avoid middlemen and tainted money.
The lodge records the July 26, 1909 death of Brother Charles Funkhouser. Members express heartfelt sympathy to the widow and family, drape the lodge charter in mourning for 30 days, and request the memorial resolutions be engrossed and delivered to the family by the secretary.
A miner writes the editor urging broader advertising of mining claims. He argues advertising raises sale chances, newspaper circulation, and owner profits, noting many miners lack funds for development or machinery yet still know their mine’s richness. He invites fellow miners to explain and contribute.
The list names 20 jurors drawn for the Challis term of District Court convening September 6. Admin F J Clyde announces as administrator for W H Lighthall deceased that creditors and all claimants must exhibit their claims with vouchers within four months after publication. The estate is to be settled at Challis Idaho in Custer County. First publication August 24, 1909.
