Texas Awe and the New Monster Battleship
Provisional sketches show a new American navy battleship twice as large as the Texas. It would fire about six times as much metal, and may even require the old second class ship as a tug. The Texas, though deemed weak on paper, performed bravely at Santiago, delivering first ten inch shells and keeping pace with stronger ships. The piece notes public comparisons, wireless editorial chatter, and Knox and other senators backing rate legislation amid political tension.
