Defense links Orchard to Cripple Creek figures in impeachment bid

In Boise on June 25 the defense for William D. Haywood began laying a basis for impeaching Harry Orchard as a state witness. They plan to show Orchard’s claimed wrongs by Governor Steunenberg and alleged threats to kill him, naming several connections from Cripple Creek and surrounding cases.

Bomb claim at Linforth flats in San Francisco inquiry

In a Boise Haywood trial deposition a bomb at an apartment in Linforth flats, San Francisco was alleged. Owner W H Linforth testified he secured $10,000 from the gas company and that a gas leak caused the blast. Two tenants corroborated the smell of gas before the explosion.

Denver June 25 The crisis in the fight against acting President Mahoney of the Western Federation of Miners intensified as the convention took up the clause concerning the Industrial Workers of the World. Vincent St John of Goldfield Nevada led the opposition. The clash is tied to the Specialistic party’s bid for federation control.

Stockholders to Meet in Pocatello for Tenabo Mines

A meeting of Troy Mining Company stockholders in Pocatello on July 1 will elect a new board of directors and decide on increasing capital stock from 300000 to 1200000. Reception to Dubois Honors Ex Senator for $350000 Irrigation Aid

Ex United States Senator Fred T Dubois of Blackfoot was honored at a Pocatello Elks Club reception. He received a gold watch for securing a federal appropriation of 350000 to irrigate Fort Hall lands. Perkins McCarty Liquor License Win Seeks Court Action

District Judge Alfred Budge ruled for Perkins & McCarty against the City of Pocatello, ordering writ of mandamus to compel the city council to issue a retail liquor license. City given twenty days to file bill of exceptions and appeal notice. City Attorney Witty ordered to appeal to the state Supreme Court, delaying final resolution by months. In Lavatta v Lavatta, judge's chambers ruling granted a decree but property division remained under advisement.

Death Trap in Gotham Kills Six From Italian Family

A four story tenement at Walker and Lafayette streets collapsed in New York killing six members of an Italian family and one other person. Contractor G. B. Lumenthal in charge of recent repairs was arrested for homicide as firefighters and volunteers recovered bodies after hours of trenching debris. Several youths returning from entertainment alerted residents and escaped before the building fell.

Feeney Sues Canal Firm for Damages Over Flood Losses

John Feeney rancher on the Cache Valley canal line sues Bancroft Land and Irrigation for 1822 dollars. He claims past three years 1905 1906 and 1907 floods from the canal damaged his crops due to criminal carelessness and negligence, with D Worth Clark filing the complaint.

A Pacific Steam Navigation steamer Santiago wreck in a heavy squall 50 miles north of Corrall costs ninety crew members their lives. Only a fourth officer survived along with one lone passenger who also drowned.

Fire early Sunday morning totally destroyed the Soda Springs town hall. A drunken sheepherder was found unconscious in a lower floor room and rescued. Loss estimated at 1500 dollars.

San Francisco June 25 telegraph firms report moving business satisfactorily. Western Union officials say conditions in that office are better today than any time since the strike began.

Regular hello girls at the Rocky Mountain Bell Telephone exchange strike for a $10 monthly raise. After a Friday ultimatum, 10 operators walked off, with Salt Lake reinforcements arriving to restore service as talks continue with Superintendent Lanestrem and the Trades and Labor council backing the workers.

City Extends Sidewalk Districts in Several Blocks

City officials led by Mayor Loux and Aldermen outline extensions to sidewalk districts on both east and west sides, adding blocks on Arthur Garfield Center Main Clark Lander and First Second Pocomtello.
