Philadelphia June 19 The grand jury returned a true bill against John Joseph Kean for kidnapping Frederick Muth seven year old son of a local jeweler. Kean pleaded guilty and received immediate trial and a twenty year sentence by Judge Sulzberger before heading to the state penitentiary.
Missouri Governor Folk said he would grant a respite to review the Aggie Myers case after the Supreme Court overruled a rehearing motion. Myers and her alleged accomplice, her parapet mour? are sentenced to death for the murder of Frank Hottman. The governor will decide whether to commute to life imprisonment.
Mrs. Harriet Purdy Smith brings the Witch of the Woods to town as a large amateur musical production under the Mutual Improvement associations of the L D 8 Church. The cast exceeds 200 with local talent and is billed as a colorful, humorous opera staged with elaborate costumes and scenery. The show has recently played to full houses in Salt Lake Ogden and Logan theaters and promises lively songs and mystic scenes in an entertaining arrival.
Norfolk Virginia reports the Knights of Columbus plan their annual convention in August 1907 at the Jamestown Exposition near Norfolk. Officials estimate at least twenty thousand delegates will attend and preparations will be elaborate.
El Paso reports W. B. Slinkard was killed by Yaqui Indians in Sonora while working on a Southern Pacific branch.
To Washington June 19 The House passed the senate bill appropriating two millions to increase the military efficiency and improve rifle practice.
The House approved a bill granting California five percent of net proceeds from all public land sales in the state. The measure sets a share for California and advances in the legislative process.
Dispatch from Jacobson reports the massacre’s end in Bialystok with 78 Jews and 6 Christians buried. City council claims no race hatred, cites provocation and police involvement. Separate item notes a royal palace guard scare and Kharkov letters predicting southern Russia revolt. Troops show support for revolutionary processions by 8000 miners.
Mrs. Cibulka, proprietor of the Maine lodging house on the east side, was found guilty of keeping a house of ill fame after a police court trial. The jury deliberated briefly and the judge fined her $100, with plans to appeal. Police intend further complaints against East side lodging houses.
Boise promoter C B Hurtt reports strong demand as 6500 acres opened under the Marysville Canal. Four thousand acres sold on opening day with sugar beet suitability and irrigation ample. Land offered under the Carey act at under 25 dollars per acre, with quick resale value noted. State Bank Commissioner C S Loveland oversaw the process and drew names at the mapping station.
The Y M C A Boys Club reports rapid growth with nine new members. A baseball league has formed and the first game was played last Saturday. Games occur Wednesdays and Saturdays, with a 6 30 a m outing planned to Mink Creek for registered members.
The President sent to the Senate the nomination of Herbert H. Pierce as minister to Norway and Huntington Wilson of Illinois to succeed Pierce as Third Assistant Secretary of State.
Silweton on June 19 reports farmer G W Martin his wife and three children drowned while returning from a circus. In darkness Martin drove off a bridge into a swollen river.
The body of Governor Patterson will be laid to rest at his country home near Cincinnati with a quiet at home service and a public service at Milford Methodist church where he belonged. In Columbus officials hint that Patterson’s Democratic appointees are unlikely to be replaced en masse, while Harris may favor Republican appointments in the future. Senate Democrats hold a majority, making confirmation of any GOP replacements doubtful.
Tom Carey Republican committeeman reports Nebraska faces extreme heat and drought risking crop failure. He jokes Nelras once seemed greatest, but now favors Idaho where winters are milder and farmers can irrigate for rain.
Pocatello dog owners criticize the dog tax ordinance noting payment to the police chief for a tax tag only and no receipt. If a dog loses its collar there is no proof tax was paid, risking impoundment or death. They urge issuing receipts to remedy the defect citing a Denver case of tag loss and damages. Pocatello has issued more tags this year than ever before.
Washington June 19 The House Committee on Appropriations voted to report the Wilson bill authorizing an annual appropriation of fifty thousand dollars to pay the traveling expenses of the President and such guests as he may invite Action on the bill will probably be taken tomorrow
Charles A. Elmer private secretary to Governor Gooding, on private business in Lewiston, endorses skipping breakfast as a beneficial habit. He claims he has not eaten breakfast for years, began with one orange then one apple daily, and notes occasional hunger yet no weight loss. He cites in Boise 200 business men practicing the plan and says it improves daily focus.
Twin Palla News reports the Short Line extension from Twin Falls to Buhl has been awarded to Utah Construction. Work starts as equipment moves to Twin Falls. Grading will be done by sections and rails ready after the Rock Creek bridge is completed. Several small bridges and fills are planned, including Cedar Draw.

The Grand Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks holds its 42nd session and 20th reunion in Denver Colorado starting July 16. Opening ceremonies at the Tabor Opera House feature Gov Jesse F McDonald and Mayor Robert W Speer with a large musical program and free receptions for visiting Elks and their ladies.
Mrs. Mary Ann Spillman Edgley of 62% North Harrison avenue died June 18 1906 after a 10 day illness. Born in London January 19 1841 she emigrated to Pocatello in 185? She leaves husband Joseph Edgley five sons and four daughters William Arthur Thomas Edward Leo Sarah Clark Amy Dalton Mary Ann Owens Annie Edgley Funeral at L D S church June 20 at 2 p.m. viewing 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at home.
George Kimpton found a blue lizard among hillside rocks north of town. The half grown venomous reptile, noted for a bite deadlier than rattlesnakes, is preserved in alcohol and on display at Molinelli & Co jewelry store.
