The second day of the Y M C A building fund drive reports strong turnout and rising totals toward a 15000 goal for a new 3000 building. Ten subcommittees and headquarters show a combined 4028.50 by noon with more pledges expected. luncheon attendance remains high and organizers push to finish interior work and furnishings.
Short Line railroad officials issued an order prohibiting Indians from riding free on passenger trains. Previously residents of the Fort Hall reservation could travel to agency towns such as Pocatello and Blackfoot without charge, often crowded in vestibules. The rule targets passenger cars only. freight trains and pole carts remain free for Native riders.
Department of the Interior notice states Charles Munn of Pocatello Idaho files for final commutation proof on Homestead Entry No 12510 for 8 percent SW quarter of Section 8 and NEY NW of Section 17, Township 7 N Range 35 E. Boise February 28 Special The Democratic state central committee met in session and chose Wallace as the site for the state nominating convention on August 4. Delegates to the Denver convention in Twin Falls on June 3 will be elected by 298 delegates apportioned by the last governor election vote. Resolutions endorsed Bryan for president and supported Dubois anti Mormon stance. Harmony described as of the axe variety.
Stockholders of the Minidoka and Southwestern Railroad met at Idaho division offices to authorize a 70 mile branch from Rupert through Jerome and Wendell to Fuller on the main line. Construction costs estimate about 10 000 per mile with funding via bonds. Completion could negate Twin Falls North Side irrigation plans for an electric railway.
Former Lee Bradley a Republican won the United States senate race in Frankfort Kentucky. He secured 64 votes from four Democrats two senators and two representatives. The chamber erupted in wild excitement as the result was announced with Governor Beckham on the floor freeing Democrats from their primary pledge. Several Democrats tried to switch their votes to Ollie James.
Salt Lake meeting of Short Line officials including Idaho division Superintendent Olmstead and Montana division Chief Dispatcher Igo confirmed adherence to the new federal labor hours law effective March 4. The railroad plans to station ten additional operators in Idaho and four to five in Montana, with a follow up meeting to brief all division heads.
Miss Marie Gilmer stars in La Belle Marie at the Lyric theater drawing a large audience with standout gowns and a renovated venue. Miss Violet McCoy, the pupil and manager, promises an excellent remainder of the season. A souvenir matinee is planned for Saturday afternoon.

Guiseppilio, jailed for the murder of Father Leo Hein r ichs, rejects his earlier statements after consulting defense counsel Robert H. Widdicombe. He now says the priest collapsed and that he only prayed in church, framing the priest’s death as accidental. He claims he spat out the host and fled in fear.
Daniel Guggenheim, president of American Smelting and Refining, predicts a turn upward in business through the year as copper rises in importance as an economic barometer. He notes Wall Street’s gloom and expects fresh capital before election results. He plans a three month vacation abroad beginning Tuesday.
Escorted by the Chicago Automobile Club pilot car the American car, leader in the New York to Paris race, left Chicago at 10 30 this morning heading through Aurora and Dixon Illinois. Other contestants remain stalled and are uncertain when they will depart.
In Teheran an assassination attempt on the Shah of Persia failed as bombs from a rooftop struck the street. Three outriders died and many bystanders were injured while the Shah escaped unharmed due to precautions and riding in a rear carriage. No arrests were reported as the bomber’s house and nearby buildings were searched.
The U S House adopted a rule restoring to the army appropriation bill a provision that would raise pay for enlisted men and non commissioned officers.
Sock Socal Trinity hosts an evening event at Trinity Hall tomorrow night. Organizers invite community members to attend a social gathering featuring music and refreshments.
Dr. Clayton A. Hoover, superintendent at Blackfoot Idaho asylum, investigated reports of mistreatment of an Indian boy at Mountain Home. He confirmed a scuffle occurred but found no visible injuries and ordered the attendant dismissed after eye witness evidence supported unnecessary force. He urged prompt reporting to authorities and enforcement of strict patient protection rules.
The Poea elo Commercial Club elected officers James F Kane as Vice President E L Holzheimer as Secretary and D W Church as Treasurer at Judge Standrods office. Joe Daniger was chosen to fill the board vacancy created by Robert J Hayes resignation. The board includes Standrod Kane Holzheimer Clveh Gray Gas ser and Daniger. A March 9 meeting will appoint standing committees and plan a campaign to boost the Gate City.
The Toggery team from Pocatello High School lost 38 to 18 at McNichols & Wright hall to the Academy’s Profs led by Retherford and Morris. Captain Mallory was ill, McAuley absent, yet Lamm carried the Toggery with strong play. next fans will see a game versus Blackfoot High School.
An explosion in the La Rosita mine near Musquiz Mexico is said to have caused many deaths with estimates from forty to ninety. The Monterey Steel Company owns the mine which normally employs about 250 miners, largely Japanese and Mexican workers.
A state asylum statement appeals to the public to examine and investigate the facility. It stresses that the asylum is open to inspection at all times and invites visitors to become better acquainted with its true condition.
