Fatal Vandalia wreck claims engineer Crookshanks at Heckland
A Vandalia line wreck near Heckland nine miles from Terre Haute killed engineer Frank Crookshanks and slightly injured fireman Charles Holland. The crash, blamed on an obstruction of a grain door, left Crookshanks trapped under the engine as nine cars derailed. remains were to be brought to Terre Haute that night.

Early Records Sent From Converse A J Gawshe
Early documents related to the local post office history arrived from A J Gawshe of Converse Indiana connected with the Washington treasury. The bundle includes Chauncey Carter’s 1840 appointment, Jordan Vigus's 1849 bond, and S F Hall's 1853 bond for 3000 dollars. Hall’s bond was secured by W C Richardson and Adkins Nash and attested by Robert F Groves. The papers were found during vault cleaning under a recent congressional law.

Logan Greys set to observe silver anniversary in Indiana
In north court room last evening Logan Greys members planned a July 13 reunion at Spencer park to mark the silver anniversary of the company. Dr Coleman chaired with Henry Wiler as secretary. Committees on arrangements and permanent organization were named. George W Palmer Henry Wiler Joe Kreider Walter Uhl Frank Kistler Frank Richardson John Beatty Charles C Torr led the task. Captain D H Chase and others organized and, since 1874, 381 men served before the 1895 disbandment. the unit has since reformed under Captain George Chase with a sizable turnout expected.

Thrilling Crossing Accident Involving Train And Horse
A passenger train near T Longcliff struck a horse hitched to a buggy at an oncoming crossing by the hospital. Engineer Kleckner tried to stop but the horse reared and toppled the buggy. Mrs Banta and her daughter were thrown free with minor injuries. the horse lay in danger as bystanders watched.

Blaze destroys Pleasant Hill barn in rapid afternoon fire
A barn on Pleasant Hill Street burned to smoldering ruins on Thursday afternoon. It was rented by H A Collins and family and owned by CGottshall of Michigan. Firefighters lacked water access, a steam engine arrived to fight embers, and the family suspects possible arson by nearby tramps. Hundreds gathered as smoke from the blaze resembled a larger fire at the Orphans' Home.
