General Lawton Killed in Luzon Invasion at San Mateo

Washington reports General Henry W. Lawton was killed instantly at 9 30 yesterday while leading the San Mateo operation northeast of Manila. He laughed at bullets, fell in the line of duty, and his death follows a long record from the Civil War through the Indian campaigns to the Spanish American War. He was born March 17 1845 in Ohio and had long served with the Indiana units. The death is a severe blow to American operations in the Philippines as troops advance against insurgent forces in Mariquina valley.

West Natick Tragedy: Woman Fatally Shoots Man

In Natick Mississippi on December 22, Mira Morse shot and killed Lewis Perry, a 33 year old Spanish American War veteran, at her West Natick home after Perry and Arnold Stappen allegedly attempted entry and caused a disturbance.
