Wounded Indiana Soldier in Porto Rico Routine
Newport News special reports Private James Johnson of Cass county in Company M 160th Indiana Volunteers was stabbed in the left arm while trying to separate quarreling boys. He will recover and go to Porto Rico. Others weakened by zeal remain at the general hospital. Some malaria lingers but will clear with sea air. The regiment is declared ranking in the Third Brigade of the First Division. General Fred Grant visited the regiment briefly, with staff housed at local hotels.
