Washington June 29 A White House effort to amend the food bill to avoid a prohibition provision or grant the president authority to permit using foodstuffs in beer and light wine manufacture began with Wilson meeting Senate leaders. He wants power to halt malt and vinous production in emergencies but does not seek immediate prohibition. Administrations fears the bone dry push could delay early passage, affect the economy, and anger workers needed for the war effort.
