Mexico rejects mediation offers from Costa Rica and El Salvador amid the U S Mexican dispute. De facto government cites sovereignty, after invasion warnings. Messages from Brazil and Ecuador indicate regional efforts to prevent war, with mediation discussions expected in Washington early next week.
German war office announced the capture of Fleury a village near Verdun on the Meuse after a nightlong battle. Trieu Mont, northwest of Fleury, and territory south of the Vans were also seized in the same action.
Four persons are dead and others missing after a blaze at the Riverside hotel in Needles near the Arizona line.
