Patterson Weld Under Bond In Burglary Case
Henry Patterson, colored, arrested in Dayton and brought to police court on burglary charges. Through attorney B C Robbins he waived preliminary hearing and Judge Converse bound him over to the circuit court on a $500 bond. Accused of entering John Scelthorn’s North Sixteenth Street home and stealing $11 from a purse and $1 from a savings bank. He fled to the river bottoms and left town after the act and was arrested at the request of local police. Earlier he allegedly threatened to shoot his wife at Hawkins Springs but was dissuaded.

Captain W. J. Downs engineer and philosopher died in Black River Falls Wisconsin at age ninety one. He helped design St Marys reservoir and laid out the Miami and Erie canal while surveying the Panhandle route between Pittsburg and Chicago. He wrote an epitaph ending with a quirky verse about lying on his back with toes toward the daisy.
