One Dead One Die in Pere Marquette Train Crash
One man was killed and about twenty injured when the Pere Marquette resort special from Michigan resorts collided head on with an eastbound freight in the South Chicago yards. Lead rider is George Batema of Grand Rapids, conductor of the passenger train. Officials say a switch was left open.

Coal Equipment Contract Let for City Plant Improvements
The municipal light plant awarded a 43,450 bid to R. H. Beaumont Co of Philadelphia for coal storing and reclaiming gear including a Beaumont drag scraper and an akip-hofstash conveyor. One other bid from Sauerman Brothers of Chicago was rejected. The system will store 15,000 tons, handle 40 tons coal and 5 tons ashes per hour, and cut noise while aiding fire suppression. Pettis A Reid longtime Richmond businessman and head of Elliott Reid Fence Co died at his Wayne Flats home after a three year illness. born near New Paris Ohio July 25 1855 he moved to Richmond in 1888 and helped grow the fence plant into a leading regional factory. Four Young People Die When Mail Train Hits Auto at Wiley's
Four youths from West Manchester Ohio were killed Sunday evening when Pennsylvania mail train 8028 struck their car at Wiley's Crossing three miles northeast of New Paris. The victims were Arno Howell 18, Levi Creager 18, Jennett Leas 17, and Helen Leas 19. The auto was driven by Howell. The car bound for Richmond theater apparently drowned out by train noise. Funeral services are planned in West Manchester with multiple burials at Twin Chapel and nearby Lewisburg.

George B. Swayne, brother of 8. Swayne, died in Coronado Beach California after a long illness. He was 11 years old for many months. The body will arrive in Richmond Tuesday June 22 and the funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday June 23 at the home of S. E. Swayne. Burial will be at Earlham Cemetery. Mrs. and Mrs. S. E. Swayne are in California now.

Civil War Veteran Henry Wise Dies at Spartansburg
Henry Wise aged 83, member of Company F, 69th Indiana Volunteers and a retired farmer, died at his home Saturday night from a complications. The funeral is set for Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the M E church. He leaves a widow, one son A C Wise, and four daughters Mrs Michael Lahey Mrs Uriah Bowers and Mrs J B Hart.
