London reports a brutal air raid across the east end by fifteen hostile planes. At least 49 dead and 200 injured, with hospitals handling over 100 cases. Eight bombs strike crowded districts. the raid marks the fourth of a new German aerial campaign over England.
United States Weather Bureau reports showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight in Indiana, with cooler temperatures tonight. Thursday looks fair and cooler in eastern and southern portions. Wayne County notes thunderstorms today and tonight, with cooler conditions Thursday. General conditions describe a slow moving eastward Iowa storm bringing heavy rain, likely to pass with diminished strength but still rain before tomorrow. East of the Meridian remains warm and sultry while the west cools, and Yellowstone Park records 2 below zero.
Republican leaders in Indianapolis outlined plans for Richard Elliott of Connersville to win a Sixth district seat in Congress. Senator Hiram W Johnson of California is slated for a June 22 Richmond Coliseum event. James E Watson will tour with five speeches, backed by Wesley Jones Harding Curtis Wadworth and Indiana and Ohio representatives. Committee for the Johnson meeting includes E H Harris as chairman and F S Dodd among others.
R. N. Elliott of Connersville, Republican candidate for congress, arrived in Richmond to canvass voters tonight and tomorrow. He met many voters and reported Democrats expressing support, saying he stands for government and loyalty. He plans a same day trip to Hagerstown and confirmation meetings, with tours to Centerville and Cambridge City, optimistic of a large Republican turnout on June 26. County Superintendent Williams will travel to Indianapolis for the State Superintendent’s Association meeting tomorrow and Friday.
Washington dispatch reports Provost marshal general office receiving thousands of letters from wives mothers and sweethearts seeking exemptions for men. Some correspondents even urge conscription noting husbands reluctance yet no reasons to avoid service.
County Liberty Loan drive advances as small banks boost subscriptions toward a 870000 share. The campaign gains with Sidney Rose offering three days of Railroad store receipts to buy bonds. Church and fire bells rang to prompt subscriptions amid strong public response.
The South Atlantic liner Sequana with 550 passengers aboard was torpedoed and sunk in the Atlantic. Among the passengers was a detachment of the Senegalese rifles. The ship, formerly the City of Corinth, belonged to the Paris based South Atlantic Navigation company. Her gross tonnage was 3,557, length 480 feet, built in Belfast in 1898.
London endures a fourth air raid by German aircraft as Essex and east London are targeted. Thirty one people killed and fifty seven injured. Paris reports the sinking of the French liner Sequana with 190 lost from 530 passengers, including Rifles members. The Leyland liner Anglian, 5532 tons, bound from Boston to Liverpool, was also sunk. crew saved.
NEW YORK June 13 United States Judge Chatfield in Brooklyn sentenced Herman Levine a school teacher and college graduate to 11 months and 29 days in prison for failing to enroll under the selective draft law.
Orville Wright, in Earlham College ceremonies, declares air raids to destroy enemy property are failures due to high costs and limited military effectiveness. He notes Germany's raid on London killed civilians and says shells and explosives make such raids impractical. The U.S. must weigh aviation costs as it develops air power.
Washington June 13 Subscriptions to the Liberty Loan forwarded by all reserve banks to the treasury department totaled 1.658 billion dollars at noon today. The figure reflects the continued strong demand across the banking system for the government debt.
The Senate today enacted the 3.281 billion war bill and sent it to the president, except for the House compromise on acquiring the Jamestown Exposition site as a naval base.
James Adkins confessed wife killer sobbed at the scene then viewed his dead wife's body before being jailed. He was moved to Michigan City to begin a life sentence in the state penitentiary.
William Mann of Crete Indiana left Mobile with his wife Matttie Mann after the couple’s involvement in a case against Rev. W. R. Motley of Spartansburg Indiana. Mann told federal officers he loves his wife and forgives her, saying she is a victim of circumstances. Motley, former pastor of Central Christian church, had fled Spartansburg with Mrs. Mann and was later arrested in Alabama.
Washington June 13 A Senate agriculture committee bill would prohibit manufacture during the war of foodstuffs into distilled spirits and malt liquors. The measure also lets the president requisition existing distilled spirits to conserve food or for war needs.

LEWISTON Idaho June 13 Every man in F Company Idaho National Guard from Lewiston has subscribed for a $50 Liberty Bond according to a letter received today from the captain of the company on duty somewhere in the United States. The letter stated the guardsmen pay for the bonds in installments of 100 month.
Nazey Evana files a suit in circuit court to collect on a promissory note alleged owed by Ora Hughbenks. The action seeks repayment of the debt and related court costs. The court filing marks the start of civil collection proceedings.
