American steamer Silvershell fought a submarine in the Mediterranean on May 30 in a running duel of about ninety minutes. Detroit June 7 four lives were lost as a fierce windstorm struck central Michigan causing about 750000 in damage. Battle Creek saw 300000 in losses with seventeen hurt others in Springport and Jackson county reported ten houses destroyed. Florence Brown of Chicago died of heart failure after the storm swept the village.
