An English aviator successfully completed a flight to France and back in a Wright biplane, covering about fifty miles without landing on French soil. The journey demonstrated favorable weather conditions enabling the daring cross channel route and return.
Dover to Calais in 90 minutes. Captain Rolls piloted a Wright biplane across the English Channel twice without alighting, skimming 900 feet high and landing near the spot Bleriot used. Spectators cheered as Rolls received credit for the decisive aeronautical feat.
The county, in its annual report to State Superintendent Robert J. Aley, notes no delinquent interest or principal on its large school fund loans for the year ending June 1. Wayne county holds 86,272.59 in congressional funds and 171,662.58 in common school funds with substantial portions loaned out, and about 19,000 on hand.
Judge Fox will decide petitions on vacating alleys beside the Pennsylvania Railroad lines in Cambridge City. Residents favored vacating all but two alleys, remonstrance filed against those two. After hearings and a personal inspection by the judge, the company sought vacating alleys to avoid duct costs.
Columbus authorities request police lookout for two fugitives who escaped the Ohio state penitentiary on May 31. Bert Smith alias Bert Clark is 20, 5 ft 6 in, 117 pounds, serving life for murder. Albert is 24, 5 ft 6 in, 135 pounds, starting a 15 year term for burglary and grand larceny.
Richmond members of the Uniform Bank of Modern Woodmen of America plan to attend the tri state encampment at Michigan City starting August 15. The convention is expected to be one of the largest in the state with 2500 to 3000 members from Indiana Illinois and Iowa attending.
Letters of administration issued to Mrs. Jennie E. Hatfield widow of late Bert H. Hatfield of Greensfork. He was one of the railway mail clerks killed in the Collinsville, C., wreck on October 23, 1909. Administratrix bonds $2,000.
William P. Robinson was appointed to the Morrisson Reeves Library commission to succeed James W. Morrisson, who resigned. The appointment was made by township trustee James Howarth. Mr Morrison recently moved with his family.
New York June 3 Park Row near the heavy pedestrian thoroughfare sank due to a cavern in the foundation of the eight million dollar municipal building. Five workmen were buried alive three were rescued two unlocated feared under tons of earth and rock. The street is four inches lower with vehicles and elevated cars halted. The excavation spans seventy thousand square feet over two blocks and forty feet deep.
At Osceola lodge of Red Men last evening committees were named to prepare the fortieth anniversary to be celebrated August 11. General committee chairmen are William Hungerford and George Eliason. Reception committee chair William Hartzler with RE. D. Bond, Hungerford, and Eliason. Entertainment chaired by Clair Knight. Refreshment committee includes J. F. Hedrick, chair, John Baker, Everett Northrup, George Lloyd, and Charles Ashingfelder. Music committee chaired by Elmer Ford with A. W. Kimbrough, Alvin Krueger, and Theodore Hunt.

The Border Belt and Lock Company of West Richmond now in Henry T. Burns’s hands as receiver faces private sale after a circuit court petition filed this morning. Assets listed around 10 000 dollars with debts totaling 10 554 dollars, including Goelitz and Kelley claims. The plant comprises raw steel and machinery with potential sale to capitalists, blamed on high freight rates and costly materials.
Cambridge City reports the death of two year old Wameta Stonecipher daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Stonecipher at Cambridge City. She will be buried tomorrow afternoon at 2 o clock in East Germantown Lutheran cemetery.

Reports say assessments were fixed at ten percent of total salary, with some candidates unhappy at the size and others denying changes. Some say the fund plan was discussed, while committee members offered conflicting responses. Candidates later met privately at the Denison hotel to plan, with debate over open campaign timing and whether to start immediately or wait until September.

Astronomy note describes a rare dawn conjunction of Venus and Saturn on June 5, appearing as a single star to the naked eye. In a telescope the two worlds will be visible with Venus four minutes north of Saturn. Occultation by the Moon on June 4 will not be visible in the United States.
At a Boss Barbers association meeting last night the decision was made to keep barber shops open until eleven o clock on Saturdays. Earlier closings at ten were protested by many barbers, leading to a vote to reaffirm the 11 PM rule as most satisfactory.
Poor weather has delayed street work but tarvia has arrived and a plan to treat the entire Main to North E street segment awaits favorable conditions. If North Tenth street test proves satisfactory, other city streets will receive similar treatment.
