Farmer Mansfield dies in barn struck by lightning
Richmond region farmer John Mansfield, born northeast of the city on the Fun Toad farm, was killed Sunday noon when a lightning bolt hit his barn causing a blaze. Neighbors aided after a long effort but the body was recovered by 8:50 pm. Two horses and farm produce were destroyed. loss estimated at 2500. Survived by wife and four children Mabel Blanche Pauline and Victor, plus sisters Mrs Sheffer and Mrs Duggins and brothers George and Leroy Mansfield.

Richmond mourns Will Surendorf a longtime mill worker and community figure. A Hanover native who came to the United States at eighteen, he joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and fraternal orders Knights of Pythias and Odd Fellows. Surendorf died Sunday at Reid Memorial Hospital at age sixty. survived by wife Louisa two sons Charles and Walter and daughter Miss J. Funeral will be Tuesday at 2 pm from his son Charles Surrendorf’s home on North Eighth Street with burial in Lutheran Cemetery and memorial services at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Conrad Huber.
