In Indianapolis December 30 read that Miltenberger and McClure vie for speaker as Governor elect McCray leans toward McClure. Huffman predicts McClure victory while Miltenberger allies push, Givan urged as compromise. Swain favored by some as Dixon and Duncan maneuver for Senate posts as leaders weigh influence and coalitions amid a tense caucus.
London newspapers urge restraining naval armaments and a conference among the United States Great Britain and Japan. The Times argues Americans misunderstand Britain’s treaty duties to Japan and calls the belief grotesquely false. The Morning Post, Daily News and others favor a three power agreement within league limits and a conference urged by Josephus Daniels.
Fourteen seaplanes led by F-5 L squadron head from North Island Navy Air Station San Diego at 8 30 am on the first leg toward Panama Bay. The 3,000 mile Pacific coast flight gathers crowds at Point Loma as the largest seaplane group yet, with 70 personnel aboard. Captain Henry C Mustin commands the lead ship. Lieutenant L D Spaulding the second.
The automobile of Thomas Williams stolen from North Ninth Street on December 14 was found in New York City. The thief was not caught and Mr. Williams plans to retrieve the car in New York.
Missoula dispatch reports governor elect J. M. Dixon called off an inaugural ball planned for Helena next week. He said he did not want to be the honor guest at a party costing five dollars a ticket.
John Bishop a farmer east of Richmond and Edward Butner on his farm were arraigned in circuit court on a charge of giving intoxicating liquor to two girls. Both pleaded not guilty and were ordered to appear for trial with Bishop on January 6 and Butner on January 7. Herman Eckler of Bayer Bakery and Berry Moore a North A street livery stable proprietor were released after appearance. Ruth Phenis and Mary Inman, the girls involved, appeared as well. Inman will be held until trial.
Weather forecast for Indiana shows fair tonight with warmer readings in the extreme south portion. Friday will be cloudy with mild, unsettled temperatures expected for the next 24 hours. General conditions note mild weather in the Mississippi valley and plain states, but cold over the south Atlantic coast and a broad rainstorm in progress across Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, with cooling outlook in western Canada.
Associated Press reports from Marion Ohio on December 30 that President elect Harding's day featured conferences with E B McLean, Will Hays, and Senator Knox on inauguration plans. Discussions touched cabinet prospects, agriculture input from the National Grange, and general leadership expectations as the new year approaches.
John I. Lennard of Richmond will appear in Hamilton municipal court Friday morning to answer a charge of receiving stolen automobiles preferred by Ohio officials. At the preliminary hearing he will likely be bound over to the grand jury for trial, officials said.
W A Milne of Muncie who was to be secretary of the Richmond Chamber of Commerce has been released from his contract. He accepted a better threefold salary offer in Cincinnati and will not assume duties here. The board says it can quickly hire a qualified successor and is reviewing several candidates.

In Tours on December 30 the right wing of the Socialist party claimed leadership of the organization. The congress split into left, centrists, and right factions over Moscow Internationals, with expulsions debated and a near walkout by delegates. Centrists split options, while the right wing walked out as meetings resumed to decide future alignment.

Warsaw Dec 30 Formal notification has been sent to Lithuania that the Vilna to Dvinsk railroad will stay Polish and the plebiscite will be held only west of that line. The League of Nations commission said Lithuania will abandon plans for a Vilna district plebiscite.
Mrs. Alice Newman about 70 was found dead from burns after falling into a grate in her Richmond Avenue home Thursday afternoon. Neighbor M T Clark discovered the charred body after smelling burning clothing and breaking in. her son Ray, a bookkeeper, and Victor, a clerk in Washington, survive. Born in Mumford New York, she taught in Greenville Noblesville and Richmond and was widowed in 1914.
Washington December 30 The Senate Reconstruction Committee held an executive session with Dr. Harry A Garfield former federal fuel administrator. Calder said Garfield proposed how to assemble anthracite coal cost data and the inquiry into the industry would be pushed. Sims was not called to testify due to pending conspiracy cases.
In Trieste on December 30, D Annunzio faded from negotiations as Fiume nears capitulation to Rapallo terms. Italian forces, led by General Caviglia, will finalize surrender with Mayor Richardo Gigante and Captain Hostventuri. D Annunzio may exile, inspired a last blast against dissension. Absent details on Stenorita Luisella Baccara, plans to wed after divorce noted.
Sample G Byer 87 of Richmond dies at home on 22 South Fleventh Street after a 10 day illness. He was born in Greencastle Pa February 1833 worked as surveyor cabinet maker and later postal clerk. Survived by widow two children two stepchildren and one stepdaughter with funeral arrangements incomplete.
