Storm battered the north part of the county more severely with freakish elements and greater damage than expected. In one area near Hagerstown crews had to use a scoop shovel to remove large hail stones from houses.
A severe April windstorm swept across the Martinsdale Creek Valley and surrounding districts, tearing roofs from barns and houses, blowing down fences and windmills, destroying crops, and damaging farm outbuildings. In Greenfork area farmers report heavy losses, notably seventy acres of wheat ruined. Residents of Madoc and nearby towns faced widespread damage and fear. Wind and hail disrupted windows, rail fences, and poultry losses occurred as weather fronts moved through the region.
Severe hail storms and powerful winds struck Waytte county yesterday afternoon and evening. Northern sections suffered widespread destruction with barns, outbuildings, and trees torn, and windows shattered across Perry and Economy towns. Heavy rainfall accompanied vivid lightning as the storm moved through, while hail caused extensive damage in Perry township and nearby areas.
