Bryan to Speak in Greensboro at Grand Opera House

William J. Bryan will address Greensboro Friday night October 8 under the Young Men's Christian Association. He will discuss war and peace, a topic he has lectured on since resigning from President Wilson's cabinet.

John Wade sentenced to one year in county jail

John Wade a noted bootlegger from High Point was captured on the Greensboro High Point road with a car packed with liquor. He pleaded guilty to possessing whiskey for sale and was sentenced by Judge Shaw to 12 months in the county jail after being caught distributing liquor to a crowd. The case followed a tip that he would be at a point on the High Point road with contraband for sale. Wade was held to Superior court on $1,000 bail at the preliminary hearing.

Canning Club Exhibits At Allen Bros Window

The Jamestown and Springfield Canning Clubs display samples in Allen Bros window and will exhibit until next Wednesday. Friday, young ladies canvass the city to take orders delivered through retail grocers. Miss Grace Shaeffer, county demonstrator, leads the clubs in promoting their first class product and a worthy cause.

Trustees name Welborn as permanent head of Mutual Furniture

In Greensboro last week creditors named D N Welborn permanent trustee of the Mutual Furniture Co. Clements and Blummer visited to purchase furniture for the Mc Adoo hotel annex. Another buyer was O W Stewart from Boston.

Asheboro Guilford Road Linked to Old Plank Route

The committee favors connecting the Asheboro Guilford road via the old plank road which remains a good path. The project would cost about $6,000 with High Point contributing $700.

Sunday School Convention in Session Here

The North Carolina State Sunday School Convention of the colored race met in session last week at the First Congregational church. Councilman S. L. Davis gave the welcoming address. Reports were positive, showing awakening among colored Sunday School workers. Several prominent colored individuals attended, and the meeting was very enjoyable.

City borrows funds for streets and sewer upgrades

The Thomasville City Council voted to borrow 10 500 to support city and school funds, start Green street sewer work, and fund surveys and bids. Council named committees to explore street paving costs and motor truck options for Eagle Hose, with census and attendance posts adjusted.

Dies after accident falls and stroke at age 33

Glen Turner died Wednesday morning after a trapdoor fall causing a concussion and head injury followed by a stroke. He was 33 and had been an invalid since childhood.

Small Blaze Destroys Cloth in Kitchen Fire

Tuesday morning at 8:30 an alarm from Box 18 reported a small kitchen fire near Corner Bay and King street. Cloth caught fire but was quickly extinguished by occupants and a bucket of water before wagons arrived. A. W. Council died shortly after midnight from diabetes following an appendicitis operation last week. He spoke with his nurse about leaving soon, was a deacon at First Baptist Church, and leaves a wife and several children. Funeral arrangements had not been announced.
