Charles F. Long secretary to High Point Furniture exposs Building told Rotary Club members in Point Me Commercial about a forthcoming 10 story structure. He claimed it will be the largest building in the state by value and size and the biggest single plant in North Carolina.
Clinard purchases the former Tre Dixie mills site on South Main Street and plans a modern forward flour corn and feed mill with capacity of 75 barrels per day. Estimated cost ranges from 25000 to 30000 dollars. Wheat and corn milled will be purchased from local farmers.
Construction nears completion as debate over the title Madison Hotel rages among stakeholders. Critics say the name is too effeminate and lacks the sturdy feel expected for a hotel, while others favor High Point Hotel for its dignified tone.
Fire department rushed to East Green and Cable streets after an alarm from box 48. Crews arrived quickly to learn a prankster had triggered the false alarm and nothing was on fire.

Transactions include A M Hardie to J C Bouldin on Denny street, J E Strayhorn to J L Strayhorn on Park street, A M Rankin to T H Horney on Denny street, and J W Johnson to J B Presswell on Davidson street, with values around 10 dollars, 100 dollars, 2500 dollars, and 1500 dollars respectively.
M L Lowden pleaded guilty at a Greensboro municipal court preliminary hearing before Judge Jones to involvement in stealing 84 cases of bottled in bond rye whiskey from Glenwood Park sanitarium. Bond set at 2500. Lowden remanded for September criminal court. Willie Freeman, not charged, held as material witness.
High Point real estate trades show a $15000 deed transferring a factory site adjoining Knox Upholstering from EB M Howard to EjectoFile company. Property lies in western High Point facing Southern Railway right of way. Mrs Martha Newlin departs Thursday night for Thomasville to make her home for the winter. Her daughter Miss Clarice will teach at the Thomasville graded school this term. They have been entertained widely in recent days. Mrs Newlin will also spend part of each day in High Point assisting at the Red Cross rooms.
High Point reports about 17,500 feet of new sewer lines laid with 50,000 more planned to improve sanitation. R L Pickett says lines are currently on Smith and Tate streets and will extend citywide to cover streets lacking sewer service.
Col Wescott Roberson, who has been spending a month’s vacation at Hendersonville, returned to this city.
John Jay Blair former Wilmington public schools superintendent named supervisor of school buildings for North Carolina by the state board of education. He will oversee new public school building plans, advise local authorities on construction types, and relocate building duties from the state superintendent. In High Point Rotary club notes a public swimming pool proposal gains traction with a five member committee to study and report next September.

H Martin died at 10 o'clock Thursday morning in a local sanitarium where he had been a patient for weeks. Born in 1856 in Yadkin county he had long resided in the city and worked for Myrtle Desk company. Survived by three sons L H Martin R B E Martin J G Martin and five daughters Mrs Mattie Strayhorn Mrs Hunice Fogeman Mrs Flora Thittle and Miss Lula Martin. Funeral services were held at the West Green street residence Friday at 4 pm conducted by Rev James A Clarke with interment in Oakwood cemetery.
Nevins M. Hayworth died Wednesday night at his son RE B Hayworth's Thistle street home after months of declining health and a paralytic stroke. He was a prominent local figure with relatives in the area, previously a farmer near High Point. Survived by two sons George and EK BE Hayworth and sister Mrs Alice Johnson of Greensboro. Funeral services were held Thursday at 3 P M at Springfield church conducted by Rev W S Lovings, with interment at Springfield.
The Sunday school of First Baptist church held Home Coming Day on September 5 at 9 30 in the morning. Superintendent A E Tate and Pastor Rev J A Clarke announced the event inviting all former and present students, parents and friends to attend. A program featuring special music by an orchestra and short welcome style addresses was planned with details to be announced later.
Vital statistics for High Point show few epidemic cases in August. Dr H W McCain notes deaths surpassed births but August records may be incomplete. smallpox one case, typhoid one, tuberculosis one, measles one, and 12 whooping cough reports. Two deaths linked to tuberculosis per physicians.
The city plans a new Park Street building on Russell and Park streets to relieve overflow from grammar grades up to fifth. R K Stewart and Son Construction Company supervise the rapid progress with completion expected by January, just after the Christmas holidays.
