W M Marr will have an assistant to help in the superintendent's office during the coming term. The school board authorized securing prices for an expert stenographer secretary to serve him. Levan Barnes, a 75 year old inmate of the country home, was struck by a car Sunday about 5 o clock and died at Wesly Long hospital late that night from injuries. The incident occurred in the yards west of the county home on the Greensboro road.
City records show building permits issued last month totaling 55 950 dollars. Despite the depression, construction remains very active with more operations underway across the city.
The city school board at its regular meeting elected Edith Moore as city school nurse for ten months. This marks the first time a nurse is on the regular payroll. Moore will study public school children and supervise hygiene, sanitation, and school health education, with duties extending to some homes. She is a city graduate and trained at a noted Philadelphia hospital, and served overseas with British and American troops for two years in early wartime hospital units.
The funeral of Moses Hammond, an aged Randolph resident who died Tuesday night in Clinton, was held yesterday at 11 o'clock in the Springfield church. The service gathered mourners and paid tribute to his decades of community involvement.
Maude Overaker of High Point sues Carl Hedgecock of Forsyth county for 10000 dollars, alleging permanent injuries from being struck while alighting a street car at Main street and Guilford avenue in High Point on March 12 1921. Plaintiff claims skull and elbow injuries, scalp laceration, broken thigh bone, hospital and medical costs about 465.17, ongoing treatment and possible operation, and crutch-walking.
The High Point township consolidation plan and 600000 in school bonds were ruled unconstitutional by the North Carolina Supreme Court. Superintendent T. R. Foust said he had not yet discussed next steps with Guilford schools. Possible action may be decided by consolidation supporters. a special election would require legislative permission. Miss Corinna Hayworth died Monday night at 10 at Guilford General hospital after a brief illness. Funeral held Wednesday at Springfield church with interment in the church burying ground. She was born October 28, 1854, to Eli and unknown Hayworth. Mr and Mrs Dee Pollock are in Havona Cuba and will return late this week. Andrew Parker left Saturday for Atlanta to spend the winter and attend school.
In Norfolk on September 2 a woman, daughter of a Warwick county physician, was confronted by a Black youth after her escort was knocked unconscious and dragged. Both victims were hospitalized in Newport News. W. B. Jones, a Black man, is arrested on felonious incident and attempted criminal incident charges.
James Gates nine is dead from an accident after a playmate Walter Harrell fired a gun accidentally. Officers report no inquest will be held and the incident is considered purely accidental in Salisbury dated Sept 2.
Roanoke Virginia news reports J M Walden acquitted of murder in the slaying of J H Rutledge at the Walden home after a police court hearing before Judge Beverley Berkeley. A N Fisher was acquitted of malicious shooting J H Whitlock. Each of Mrs Walden Mrs Fisher and Whitlock were fined 500 on statutory charges.
Chicago September 2 American women are thriftier and more sincere about home life than men. Mrs Mary Baird editor of the Ladies Review told delegates at the National Congress of America convention here. She praises mothers for saving and prioritizing their children's future. Young married women feel heightened responsibilities.

Revenue officers captured a 300 gallon liquor still during a raid on Ernest Tucker's property in Randleman township on Wednesday afternoon. Tucker was placed under arrest.

Mr and Mrs H C Massey returned from Mint Hill after attending the funeral of D W Wood the Masseys brother in law. Wood was well known in this city as a former Swift and Company representative and leaves many friends who will mourn his passing.
Mildred Irene Stout nine months old, daughter of Mr and Mrs B C Stout, died at the Stout residence on Vail Street Monday morning after several days illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 PM from the home conducted by Rev C V Brooks.
