Tragic Blast Kills W L Kivett and Son Burns Near High Point

A fatal dynamite explosion on a Guilford County farm killed 49 year old W L Kivett and his ten year old son Burns. A negro hand found the scene, and officials disclosed a theory that a crow bar struck a detonator causing the sticks to detonate. A closing prayer was offered by Dr. Claxon as the remains of both father and son were laid to rest in the local cemetery. Their graves were adorned with garlands of flowers and attended by thousands of mourners.

Miss Ethie Gowans of the National Bureau of Education spoke to a large audience on training children to turn waste places into beautified, productive spaces. Local Military Company M the High Point Rifles left Tuesday night for Raleigh to compete for prizes in the drills. They carried home high honors from Morehead City and feel confident of another win.
