Chairman Brown Puts Pertinent Questions On Liberty Bond Tax Exemption

Chairman Joseph G. Brown of the Central Liberty Loan Committee for North Carolina asks taxpayers and bond buyers three key questions about Fourth Liberty Loan bonds. He notes that holdings up to 45000 at 4 to 4.25 percent may be fully exempt from income, excess profit, and war taxes during the war and two years after, with proportional relief for smaller subscriptions, and that surtax payers could improve after-tax yield from 30000 investments of 5.09 to 3.12 percent depending on their surtax rate. He also warns that Liberty Bonds are entirely exempt from normal income taxes under the Revenue Act and bear no state or local personal property taxes, urging careful understanding to avoid dollar losses.
