Daughters of the Confederacy Hold Twenty Third NC Convention

High Point hosts the North Carolina Division Daughters of the Confederacy annual convention with state president Mrs C Felix Harvey. Notables include Mrs Josephus Daniels and Mrs Newton Baker. talks, memorial duties, prize awards, and plans for a Raleigh memorial building. Delegates from eastern central and western sections elect officers and pledge support for the Soldiers Home at Fayetteville and Raleigh records depository.

Slander Case Dismissed In Local Court

Judge O A Kirkman dismissed the slander case against Miss Pattie Welborn and Mattie Wood after both witnesses testified Mrs Bertha Smith was with another married woman and two unknown men near woods last Monday night. Mrs Smith testified she was at a church meeting and near Main Street at home. The assault charge against Mrs Smith was also dropped. Streets and crossings were discussed at the city council meeting following the trial.

Deputies and revenue officers arrested Lester and Cecil Kivett near Cobb's farm on the Greensboro road after a three day roundup. A 35 gallon copper still and 360 gallons of beer were seized. The brothers were jailed in Greensboro on a $2,500 bond awaiting Guilford Superior Court.

Municipal court clears Monday session with multiple guilty pleas

A packed Monday morning docket in the street parlance hear heard Carl Mann guilty of drunk and disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle under whiskey influence with a 50 dollar minimum license revocation option on appeal. J M Oakley fined five dollars for drunk and disobedience to an officer. F A Bettenheimer and Harry Cox each fined ten dollars for drunkenness. Glenn Johnson jailed for assault on a Negro at Carnival grounds with a ten dollar fine. Sam Boss fined costs and license fee for operating a pressing club without permit.

Friends Hold Annual Roll Call Rally Day Observed

The Friends congregation met Sunday morning for the annual roll call at the church. Members sat in family groups to reflect unity and relationship to Christ and the Church. Sunday school at 9:45 featured rally day songs scripture portions and a talk by O. E. Mendenhall.

Junior Order leader visits High Point to boost membership

Numa R. Reid state councilor of the Jr. O U A M spoke in High Point to urge members to recruit new ones. He mailed letters to every Junior in North Carolina about joining. He announced the Junior Order Advocate a new state publication issued from Wilmington with promising prospects. Reid's home is near Wentworth.

Car Stolen From In Front Of Wilson Motor Co

Miss Cora Davis reports her automobile stolen Monday morning from in front of the Wilson Motor Co. after being parked at the garage that dawn. A liberal reward is offered for the recovery of car and thief. The auto was later found near Winston next dry.

High Pointer Captures Wrestling Victory in City Ring

Deck Hardy of this city defeated carnival professional wrestler Young Herman in a two minute match Saturday night. Hardy, recently discharged from the army with a wounded left leg, is hailed as a top athlete and reportedly broke Herman’s ankle previously. The crowd cheered the victory for High Point.

Public Welfare Officer Investigates Child Labor School Attendance

Mrs Planch Carr Guilford county welfare superintendent visits High Point to inspect child labor and school attendance. she finds many children in or out of school and suggests parents and employers must ensure schooling. Carr notes farming and domestic work may be exempt from some rules and that she plans weekly visits.

Committee Named to Report on New Hotel for the City

At a High Point meeting of manufacturers and business men in the Commercial club the group subscribed 3400 for the South Atlantic Export company. The chamber secretary was authorized to raise 10000 more as High Point’s required city subscription to secure a director in the association.

MRS Isaac Bodenhamer Dies at Union Cross

Mrs. Isaac Bodenhamer died at her home four miles north of here at Union Cross. She was 70, died while on a ladder reaching for a sparrow’s nest behind a chimney. Funeral at Abbotts Creek had a large crowd, Rev. J. M. Hilliard officiated. Her husband preceded her four years earlier. she leaves three sons, two daughters, and numerous grandchildren. Sixteen other local notes follow about church meetings, illnesses, and neighborly visits.

Revival meetings at the First Presbyterian Church draw strong crowds and good progress is reported.

Great Meet Reunion Draws Confederate Veterans to Atlanta

Confederate veterans of High Point report the Atlanta reunion last week was the greatest gathering of the old vets. Several thousand veterans who fought in the Civil War met in Atlanta to reflect on life after Appomattox. They praised Atlanta citizens for their eager hospitality and said everyone returned thoroughly pleased with the occasion.
