Thieves Enter East Washington Store for Cigarettes and Garters

Midnighters broke into A. R. Kimrey’s East Washington street store stealing about 1100 cigarettes, a few packs over two boxes, 101 pairs of socks and several garters worth around ten dollars. Police suspect young burglars. owner plans iron bars on windows to deter future intruders.

A sister in Namer Pike reports her brother, a deaf mute, disappeared after leaving for California three years ago. He last sent cards from Oakland and San Francisco, with no word in the past year. The San Francisco police chief is asked to investigate the missing man.

Confederate Veterans Entertained by Local Daughters

The Confederate Veterans were hosted by the local Daughters of the Confederacy on Saturday in Lincoln hall. He spoke at the Commercial National Bank about peace and neutrality in the war, urged caution against militarism, and then addressed crowds in Winston and Greensboro before traveling to Clarksville Virginia. Alleged Thief Arrested in Charlotte

Claude Coley was arrested in Charlotte Saturday charged with taking clothes and valuables from William Clinard’s room at the Elwood. Chief Gray brought Coley back for trial. He posted $15 security until Monday morning but failed to appear and a capias was issued.
