Manly Receives Six Month Sentence For Whiskey Possession

Lexington man Jim Manly was sentenced to six months road duty after being found with 23 pints of whiskey. He claimed the alcohol was to bathe an old sore, a treatment after doctors failed to help. The whiskey was poured into the sewer by order of the recorder. Presiding Elder Rowe of Salisbury district missed a Sunday appointment due to a miscalculated train time. He is the father of High Point's Wesley Memorial M. E. church pastor.

Registration Books Open for November Election

Registration books for the November election are open and will stay open until October 28. Registrars will staff polling places in October on Saturdays to register voters. Those previously registered in the last two years or for the June primary do not need to re register unless they have changed their voting precinct.

Aged man faces court after assault and gun threat

Ned Dorsett, alleged to have a bad reputation, assaulted Tom Pethel and threatened Officer Carroll with a gun when approached. Carroll disarmed him after a brief struggle. A separate assault case against Dorsett’s daughter-in-law is also pending. He is to be tried in today’s court.

High Point Route 3 notes new life for Fairfield Sunday school after a protracted meeting with Mr and Mrs Suits returning from Moore’s Springs. Oak Shade school began Oct 9 with Prof Crude Colfax and Miss Mamie Coltrane Sophia directing. Prof Fentress practiced singing for the Pleasant Garden convention on the 4th Sunday in October. Farmers plan abundant wheat oats and rye next year as fields show renewed sowing. Many from this route will attend Greensboro fair this year.
