City council passes flu emergency rules for public gatherings

The City Council on Tuesday enacted emergency ordinances to curb Spanish influenza. Public events in churches schools theatres and other gatherings are restricted and sale of soft drinks cream and similar items is halted except in single containers. Glasses spoons and cups must be sterilized in steam or boiling water for 10 minutes with fines up to 50 dollars for violations. The measures run from October 1 to October 8 to stop the spread.

Liberty given to J N Thompson after car crash

J N Thompson was released on a $1000 bond after steering his car into the Kearns and Austin vehicles on Friday night. A little Austin child suffered a skull fracture and Mrs. Ed Kearns broke a leg in two places. Mrs. Austin received bruises as the cars were on the wrong side. The judge acquitted Thompson on Saturday at home, with Rev P D Brown officiating.

Liberty Loan workers in High Point township pledged nearly $759,000 with Rev. Isaac W. Persons urging duty and sacrifice. Patriotic Liberty Bond Rally Draws Large Crowd

A Sunday Liberty Lodd meeting drew a large audience as Hon. A. L. Brooks of Greensboro and Hon. Ike Meekins of Elizabeth City spoke on patriotism and support for the war and government securities. The program included readings, prayers, music, and notes from soldiers and local contributors.

Auto Wreck On East Washington Street Yesterday

Two cars crashed on East Washington Street last night. JA Chernault and Vassie Wilson drove away with non life threatening injuries to vehicles, no one hurt. Wilson tried to turn onto Hamilton Street. both cars suffered significant damage including bent axles and dished fenders.

Three People Injured In High Point Greensboro Auto Crash

A Friday night collision on the High Point Greensboro highway left three people injured and three vehicles damaged. J N Thompson driver of Elwood Ho tel, Ed T Kearns, and Dr J W Austin were involved. Children and adults sustained serious injuries including a fractured skull to Lawrence Austin and a broken leg for Mrs Kearns. Thompson faced a warrant for assault with deadly weapon with intent to kill, bond set at 1000.
