Justice Alexander acquitted Police Chief Orr and over thirty Charlotte officers charged in the August 25 rioting murders after a ten minute ruling. The judge acknowledged an offense but found no evidence to hold them on a munner charge. Final arguments were presented by E T Cansler and Jake Newell.

Local Couple Gifts $100 to High Point Fire Department

Mr and Mrs J Edward Kirkman presented a $100 check to Chief A B Horney and the High Point fire department as thanks for saving their home from a recent blaze. The department received the largest donation it has ever seen and an oyster supper will be held December 3 with speeches.

Sherrod Buys Half Interest in Peacock-Sherrod Building

A. Sherrod purchased a one half interest of Dr. Dred Peacock in the Peacock Sherrod building on South Main street near the post office. Reported price is about $30,000. The two story brick structure houses Hart Drug Co and W. C. Beavans on the lower floor with offices above, fronting 48 feet on South Main. No changes to the building or tenants are planned.
