Germany stripped of military strength and defenses

Washington analysis concludes terms imposed on Germany are harsher than on Austria Bulgaria and Turkey. Surrender includes 5 000 cannons 2 000 aircraft and naval assets with 160 submarines six battle cruisers ten battleships and 50 modern destroyers removed. Heligoland may be occupied as base and Rhine defenses locked behind a 40 kilometer neutral zone.

Immediate retirement of German military forces from France Belgium and Alsace Lorraine disarming and demobilization of German armies. Allied and American occupation of strategic German areas to prevent renewed hostilities. Seizure of parts of the German fleet and submarines by Allied navies. Disarmament of warships under allied supervision. Occupation of German naval bases by victorious powers. Release of Allied personnel held prisoners in Germany without reciprocal action.

CANCELLATION OF ALL DRAFT CALLS ORDERED

Washington November 11 The War Department halted all army draft calls after the armistice with Germany delaying entries for over 300 000 men. Telegrams directed boards to stop entrainments and return men already en route where possible. Secretary Baker announced no further draft inductions for the present and a cautious move toward civil life for those already on the way. November 11 1918 will be remembered as a milestone of peace after four years of war.

Yank Soldier Letters Reveal Battle Wounds and Capture

Mrs. W. H. Idol of Howell street receives a letter from Corporal Guy E. Idol of Company E, 118th regiment, 30th division, recounting a great battle with the Old Hickory Division. He says he killed two enemy soldiers, wounded seven, was captured after being wounded, then treated well in a German hospital and hopes to return home soon.

High Point Celebrates Victory Over Germans in Joyful Parade

High Point woke to news of peace at 4 am Monday and spent the day and night in raucous celebration. Horns, whistles, firecrackers, and improvised noise makers filled the streets as thousands gathered. A grand nighttime parade featured fraternal orders and civic groups with short patriotic speeches.

Beloved Mrs Sechrest Dies After Short Illness

Friends and family mourn the death of Mrs J W Sechrest of East Washington who passed away after a brief illness. Born 1855, she married Joseph W Sechrest in 1880 and left four surviving children and three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held at her home led by Reverends Rowe and Billiard.

North Carolina leaders will lose prestige as Republicans gain control. Prices: wheat fixed for Western farmers, cotton price not regulated for Southern planters influencing 1916 vote. War revenue bills and job distribution helped Republicans. voters weighed these items, not Wilson or the war. The Democrats had a chance to secure posts but were human. the vote reflected broader concerns.
