Mrs. Dora Mills of Reidsville reports a letter from her son Corporal Julius C Mills of the Reidsville company 6 120th infantry 30th division in France noting heavy casualties in a recent battle near St Quentin The company is nicknamed the orphans and members from Spray Leaksville Draper and surrounding areas contributed to the unit Many officers from the county are listed as removed or reassigned from the unit due to injuries or examinations

Private Bennett Cornelius of Thomasville Killed in Action

The report notes Private Bennett Cornelius of Company L, Thomasville, killed in action by the Germans. Deputies Wagner Crutchfield Johnson and Gaffney with Charles Smith seized a 125 gallon moonshine still on Dan Smith's farm 13 miles from the city. The operation included two good mules a wagon five bushels of meal and three 50 gallon molasses barrels. Smith waives preliminary and posts $1000 bail for December term in Greensboro federal court.
