City Council Approves Concrete Paving On East Commerce Street
At Tuesday night’s meeting the City Council decided to start improving East Commerce Street with concrete to showcase low costs, about $1.20 per square yard versus asphalt at $1.50. A measure authorizes City Attorney Roberson to draft papers for paving Main Street from end to end, with no bond issue required yet unsure whether to fund under general or city law. It remains undecided whether concrete or asphalt will be used on Main Street and other streets may be pursued under the property owner clause allowing 60 percent frontage petitioning for improvements. R.G. Lassiter of Oxford provided cost estimates and is noted for county road and Greensboro street work. No action was taken on a Dome gardening teacher.
