Postage Rates Announced for Local Letters

Soldier Sentenced to Road Time After Assault

Everett Johnson was convicted for assaulting W. D. Simmons on South Main Street Saturday evening and received a 30 day road sentence at trial on Monday. He appealed but failed to post a $300 bond. The evidence showed Johnson had little provocation for the attack.

Mrs. Alice Denny died Thursday night at 10 40 at her home. Funeral services and interment were held Saturday at Summerfield, her old home.

Death of A. L. Cecil heads local obituary note

Mr. Cecil A dead died Monday afternoon at his Best Street home after a long illness. He leaves a wife and one son. He belonged to the Cecil & Kennedy firm on English Street. Funeral services were held at the home and burial followed at Pleasant Grove. Halloween revelers occupied Main Street with no disturbance.
