Taxes Rise Skiesward By City Council In High Point

The city council set a new property tax rate of 1.90 per 100 in High Point surpassing most North Carolina cities. The revenue base, including water and lights, is projected to total about 175000 a year with roughly 60000 additional to the treasury if the base 150000 is used. A second feature urges the role of hope in daily life, describing hope as essential to endure hardship and pursue future happiness.

Raid Destroys Still Farm Near Jamestown

Deputy Sheriff J E Wagner and C S Carroll halted a farm raid two miles east of Jamestown destroying a 40 gallon stills and apparatus three gallons of singlings and about 900 gallons of beer. Distillers fled leaving notes saying take this one out of your way and you can have the rest. Raid marks third blockader action in the area last week as liquor circulates freely.

Five Embryo Soldiers Sent Off From High Point Town Ship

About fifteen hundred people gathered at the depot to bid farewell to 54 selectmen en route to Camp Jackson. The crowd waited hours as the train moved off, the band played and handshakes were plentiful. Weaver M. Marr led the group, praised for composure, as the soldiers left with plenty of good-will gifts and strong resolve to fight the Hun.

Train car slogans rally Randolph soldiers on the run

Two cars of Randolph soldiers were on the train carrying off the High Point selectmen. The Randolphires chalked over the cars with slogans such as To Berlin or Bust and To Hell with the Kaiser. In other news a for sale ad appears in the REVIEW OFFICE.
